An Independent Modernist-GPD

As Alka Acharya has used, Irreverence perhaps is the most apt word to describe GPD’s works. He himself described his theater being so and expressed a tinge of sadness over not having a corresponding Marathi word which could capture the militancy, erudition and yet rootedness which is essential of any serious political effort (and no ‘moralizing’ sermons can ever match it) and goes behind such irreverence. His works exemplified a rare sense of ‘hope’ ( Ernst Bloch and his ‘principle of hope’ was his favorite.)- not a blind hope of the faithful, but a militant hope of continuing and furthering the battles, in new forms in changing times.
